Lord Lyttleton's Carton Pierre Casket

George Lyttelton, 4th Baron Lyttelton (1817-1876) was a Tory politician, holding numerous government
positions.  He once played a chess match with Paul Morphy, was a colleague of Howard Staunton, and
appeared with him and other chess notables in the Illustrated London News.

Henry Selfe was an lawyer and later a Magistrate for the Westminster Court.  He was an active
member of the Canterbury Association and in 1967 accompanied Lord Lyttelton on his trip to
Canterbury, New Zealand. Lyttleton presented him with a set in a Carton Pierre casket.

The casket, very unusually, has all of the castellations present arround the top corners.
